Chelsea crush Forest 3-0 to climb into EPL top four
Chelsea secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday, turning the game around in a dominant second-half display that lifted them to fourth place in the Premier League.
The home side dominated the opening 45 minutes, employing a high-pressing strategy that created several scoring opportunities.

Nottingham Forest forward Elliot Anderson squandered a golden chance inside the penalty area, while midfielder Ben Chrisene (Gibbs-White) saw a long-range effort narrowly miss the target.
Chelsea, however, grew into the game as the half progressed and nearly took the lead when Diego Santos fired wide after a setup from Pedro.
Forest’s sluggish start to the second half proved costly. Just minutes in, Chelsea’s young defender Josh Acheampong scored his first senior goal with a close-range header, capitalizing on excellent wing play from Portuguese midfielder Neto down the left flank.
Neto then doubled the lead with a well-struck free-kick, showcasing his set-piece prowess. Despite the deficit, Forest nearly pulled one back when Jesus hit the crossbar with a powerful shot that bounced out. The visitors continued to exploit Forest’s vulnerability at set pieces, with Reece James adding a third from a corner kick.
Despite the scoreline, Forest edged out Chelsea in expected goals (xG), registering 2.12 compared to Chelsea’s 1.66, highlighting their attacking intent. Manager Steve Cooper’s side, under new boss Ange Postecoglou, remain winless in eight matches and sit 17th in the table, raising concerns about their relegation battle.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have now won three consecutive games and are eyeing a top-four finish.
The Blues host Ajax in the Champions League next, while Forest face Porto in the Europa League at home.
Manchester City, practically handed Arsenal its first Premier League title on Tuesday, ending a 22-year wait to lift the most prestigious silverware in English football with a 1-1 draw outing with Bournemouth.
As a result, the final march of The Gunners with Crystal Palace on Sunday would be a formality, given that they are five goals clear of City, who needed to win their match today to keep hope alive to lift the trophy once again should Arsenal drop a point.
But that was not the case as Man City did not make it past the Cherries, who fought to extend their unbeaten streak to 17 league games, a run which has secured European football for the first time in the club’s history.
After finishing second for the past three seasons, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners have finally made it over the line to end a six-year trophy drought.
Arsenal edged to the brink of the title with an unconvincing 1-0 win over already relegated Burnley on Monday, which took them five points clear of City.
The Gunners, who have set the pace for most of the season, have bounced back impressively since losing to City last month, winning four straight league matches without conceding a goal.
On Monday, just 48 hours after completing a domestic cup double with victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final, City were rocked by widespread reports that manager Pep Guardiola will depart after a decade in charge at the end of the season.
Victory at Wembley on Saturday secured a 20th trophy of Guardiola’s glorious reign.
But he cannot add to his six Premier League titles when Aston Villa visit the Etihad on Sunday for what is expected to be his final match in charge.
Guardiola had warned that fatigue could cost City against a highly motivated Bournemouth, who still have Champions League qualification in their sights for next season.
As it stands, Bournemouth will be in the Europa League after ensuring they will finish no lower than seventh.
Sixth could be good enough for a place in the Champions League if Aston Villa finish fifth and win Wednesday’s Europa League final.
City fans forlornly chanted “One more year, Guardiola” in the early stages at the Vitality Stadium in a bid to convince their decorated coach to see out the final season of his contract.
But if the travelling fans hoped City’s players would be inspired to give Guardiola a glorious goodbye, they were left sorely disappointed.
Antoine Semenyo had the ball in the net on his return to Bournemouth but was flagged offside in City’s best moment of a flat first half.
The home side suddenly sprang to life to open the scoring in the 39th minute.
Eli Junior Kroupi curled a brilliant strike into the top corner to set a new record of 13 goals in a debut Premier League season for a teenager.
Nico O’Reilly wasted City’s best chance of a lifeline when he was denied by Djordje Petrovic just seconds into the second half.
Guardiola watched on pensively as his side’s title challenge fizzled out with a whimper.
After winning what was billed a title decider against Arsenal last month, City put the destiny of the title back in their rivals’ hands by drawing 3-3 at Everton.
Guardiola looks set to depart having failed to win the league for two consecutive seasons for the first time in his coaching career.

But it was a big goal for Liverpool, who now have a three-point cushion over Bournemouth and a goal difference advantage of six heading into the final day battle to secure a top-five finish and Champions League football.
A goal from Kai Harvetz got Arsenal within a touching distance of the first Premier League trophy as it was enough to hand them a 1-0 victory over Burnley on Monday to open up a five-point lead at the top.
But it all depends on the club not dropping a point that would allow Manchester City closing the five-point gap and lifting the trophy on a goal-difference advantage, which will upscale the parched throat of management and supporters craving for a silverware over the years.

To add extra intrigue to the final days of the season, reports on Monday suggest Guardiola will leave City after a decorated decade in charge after Villa visit the Etihad on Sunday.

Havertz was quickly replaced by Viktor Gyokeres. The Swede’s arrival failed to kickstart Arsenal as an attacking force.
But their rock solid defensive record again edged them closer to the title.
Since losing to City last month, Arsenal have not conceded in their last four league games.
Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League as Eberechi Eze’s rocket sealed a tense but vital 1-0 win against Newcastle on Saturday.
For the first time since October, Arsenal had started a league game out of pole position after Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Burnley on Wednesday sent them to the summit.
But Eze lifted the Gunners back into first place with his sublime strike in the first half at the Emirates Stadium.
Eze’s 10th goal this season opened up a three-point lead over second-placed City, who were booking their place in the FA Cup final with a 2-1 win against Southampton, while Arsenal were in league action.
It was an essential victory for Arsenal, whose 2-1 defeat at City last weekend was a huge blow to their title hopes.
After losing just three of their first 49 matches in all competitions this season, Arsenal had been beaten in four of the previous six, suffering successive league defeats for the first time since 2023.
Having blown substantial leads in the title race in 2023 and 2024, allowing City to pip them in the trophy, the north Londoners’ recent slump has left them in danger of squandering another golden opportunity to win their first English crown since 2004.
City have a game in hand on Arsenal, keeping the destiny of the title in their hands.
However, they do not play their next league game until May 4 when they visit Everton, giving Arsenal the chance to move six points clear when they host Fulham next weekend.
Before that, Arsenal visit Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Wednesday.
City’s win against Burnley had ended Arsenal’s 209-day run as leaders due to their superior goals scored tally.
While Arsenal are back on top with a one-goal better goal difference than City, their failure to run up the score on toothless Newcastle could come back to haunt them.
Newcastle have been in even worse form than Arsenal, and this was their ninth defeat in 12 league games, adding to the pressure on under-fire boss Eddie Howe.
Eze drilled narrowly wide from the edge of the area, a warning that Newcastle failed to heed as the England midfielder put Arsenal ahead in the ninth minute.
Once again, Arsenal’s set-piece mastery paid dividends, but Newcastle were guilty of woeful defending.
Martin Odegaard found Kai Havertz inside the area, and he teed up Eze — left unmarked in virtually the same position as his shot moments earlier — to smash a superb curler into the top corner from 18 yards.
Arsenal’s 17th goal from a corner this season set a new Premier League record for a single campaign.
After playing just six short corners in the league all season prior to facing Newcastle, Arteta’s men deployed three in the first half alone to exploit a vulnerability in the visitors’ defence.
Arsenal were far from flawless themselves, and keeper David Raya was almost caught out by Sandro Tonali’s dipping drive from distance.
Havertz limped off in the 34th minute to extend his injury-plagued season.
And there was more bad news for Arteta on the injury front when Eze was forced off early in the second half.
Arsenal lost their rhythm after the injuries, and Yoane Wissa should have made them pay when he volleyed over from eight yards.
Arsenal’s anxiety was palpable in the stands and on the pitch as Dan Burn’s header was clutched by Raya in the closing stages.
Shaking his head on the touchline, Arteta breathed a sigh of relief as a gripping title race took another twist.
