IGP approves provisional redeployment of two senior officers after media reports
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has directed temporary assignments for two high-ranking officers to fresh jurisdictions, awaiting ultimate ratification by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
An official communication from the Force Headquarters in Abuja outlined the moves: Commissioner of Police (CP) Miller Gajere Dantawaye is assigned to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Wilson Aniefiok Akpan is sent to Kogi State.

The order specified that these are interim placements pending PSC endorsement, and personnel stepping into elevated roles must refrain from displaying the corresponding insignia until official clearance.
“Posting of Senior Officers. The Inspector-General of Police has ordered the provisional posting of the following officers as indicated against their names: To CP FCT- Compol Miller Gajere Dantawaye; To CP Kogi — Decompol Wilson Aniefiok Akpan pending the approval of the Police Service Commission (Polscom),” it reads.
The internal alert, coded TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.6/213, was sent to all regional and state commands, units, and divisions within the Nigeria Police Force.
This shift essentially removes Ajao Saka Adewale from his role as FCT Commissioner of Police.
Adewale had taken up the position in March 2025, replacing Assistant Inspector General Tunji Disu, who moved to lead the Special Protection Unit at Force Headquarters.
Dantawaye, serving as Kogi State Commissioner since January, is set to assume the FCT leadership role once PSC approves.
The adjustment follows roughly a week after activist Omoyele Sowore urged Adewale’s ouster, citing mishandling of the fatal incident involving Arise News presenter Somtochukwu Maduagwu, known as Sommie, and security guard Barnabas Danlami.
The duo died in a brutal armed heist in Abuja on September 29, 2025. Sommie, a 29-year-old journalist and qualified attorney born December 26, 1995, perished alongside Danlami.
The attack unfolded around 3 a.m. on September 29 at Sommie’s third-floor apartment in Abuja’s Katampe area, where more than 15 gunmen invaded a 16-unit complex.
Eyewitness accounts say Sommie leaped from her balcony to flee the intruders. She arrived lifeless at Maitama General Hospital by 4:30 a.m.
Early accounts hinted at potential healthcare lapses, but the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) confirmed she had no vital signs on arrival.
Authorities subsequently detained 12 people linked to the crime.
Before this, Adewale discussed the matter in an Arise News interview, offering his perspective on the sequence of events.
In response, Sowore posted on Facebook on October 2 under the heading ‘Still On Arise News Producer Somtochukwu Maduagwu “Sommie”‘s Tragic Death: The Commissioner of Police of the FCT, Wale Ajao and the Posture of Failure,’ demanding Adewale’s dismissal.
Sowore criticized Adewale for acknowledging that robbers rampaged in central Abuja for 90 minutes without police action, labeling it a clear sign of inadequacy.
He also took issue with how Adewale managed details of Sommie’s passing, highlighting deficiencies in emergency services and medical support in the capital.
Sowore contended that Adewale’s comments and demeanor in the interview revealed the police command’s lack of gravity and the broader breakdown in Nigeria’s safety and health systems.
Sowore said, “The first thing that struck me about FCT Commissioner of Police Adewale Ajao when he was interviewed on Arise News yesterday wasn’t his words, but the plethora of award plaques carefully arranged behind him, Nigeria’s national symbols of empty recognition.
“And yet, in front of those plaques, he sat to ignorantly announce that armed robbers operated in the heart of Abuja for a full 1 hour and 30 minutes without any police intervention.
“As if that disgrace wasn’t enough, he capped his puerile briefing with a most ridiculous conclusion, that Sommie, the Arise News producer, was “rushed” to the hospital but doctors could not revive her after performing CPR.”
“It was a damning display, as he sat comfortably throughout the nauseating interview, not just of failure, but of how deeply unserious and broken the security architecture and the medical emergency care situation of Nigeria is,” he said.
“If CP Wale Ajao served in a proper police force, he would have been fired the very minute he concluded that embarrassing interview, if not even before.”
The echoes of the drums rolled out to celebrate the rescue of the 44 teachers and students, kidnapped from some schools in Oyo State, after 56 days in the bush, would surely be disrupted abruptly, with the divergent echoes of a fresh abduction, this time coming from Kogi State.
Reports indicate that the gunmen, struck on Tuesday at the Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area of the state, abducting four students, the school principal and a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc staff member.
Authorities of the Kogi State Police Command, who immediately unleashed their operatives in hot pursuit of the abductors, said the attack occurred at about 5:25 p.m. while the students were writing their NECO examination.
Saliu Oyiza Afusat, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and spokesman of the command, said a combined team of police personnel and other security agencies has launched a search-and-rescue operation following the incident.
Informing that one of the students was actually rescued immediately, she said efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and apprehend the attackers, adding that Naziru Bello Kankarofi, the state Commissioner of Police, alongside the Brigade Commander and the State Security Adviser to the Governor, Commodore Jerry Omodara (Rtd), were already on the way to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.

Trump, who said the investments would be “MASSIVE but, at the same time, extraordinarily good for them, and their future,” added that the deals would see factories, plants, and equipment pour into the US at “Historic levels.”
The Gulf nations have committed to invest trillions of dollars in the US, though it remains unclear how much of that they will actually spend over the next several years.
Meanwhile, the US continues to bomb Iran in what appears to be a resumption of active conflict between both countries, despite an ongoing roadmap to end the conflict.
Reports say operatives of the Osun State Police Command, and those of the Department of State Services (DSS) had tracking the trail of Adeniyi Adeyemi, controversial Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), for weeks, before he was eventually pulled out of his hole on Tuesday.
However, the duo, were said to have pulled back after failing to track him through his mobile phones, which he had reportedly switched off for about two days, making it difficult to locate him, leaving the stage for the members of the Police Intelligence Response Team (PI-RT) led by Moses Lohor, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
Lohor, said to have previously served as the Commander of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of Osun State, and reported to have been involved in high-profile security operations and controversies, after taken over fielded his men to pick up signals from their well-oiled signal networks.
Regarded by many Osun residents as one of the key security officers who contributed significantly to the peace and stability enjoyed in Ilesa and other parts of the state during his tenure, he was said to have relied on his contacts before his transfer out of the state, said to have raised concerns from the public about the security situation he would be leaving behind.
His exit from the state was said to be hinged on an incident in 2024, in which he allegedly shot one Iyanda Alowonle, then Chairman of Osun State Motor Transport System, in the stomach at the police station in the state prompting an order for his arrest by then Inspector General of Police (IGP).
His effort was said to have paid off when he successfully tracked down the controversial PFIPC, boss, who was seen on Tuesday evening, in a shot video on social media undergoing interrogation, and eventually handed him over to Ibrahim Gotan, Commissioner of Police in the state.
The PUNCH quoted one of the sources as saying: “The arrest (of Adeyemi) took place on Tuesday morning by the IRT squad, who immediately moved him to Abuja. After he was arrested, he was taken to Ibadan and from there to Abuja.”
