From Reuben Abati, former presidential spokesperson, came an advice to President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday – beware of Nyesom Wike Minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), he portends danger for you.
Abati, a host on The Morning Show, a breakfast programe on ARISE NEWS, television network, spoke against the backdrop of the dust being raised by Wike’s outing on Monday, where he berated Rotimi Amaechi, his predecessor as Governor of Rivers State, as a liar.
Wike, told reporters he hosted at his home in Abuja: “We have no time to listen to nonsense in Nigeria. I don’t understand why a man like Amaechi would choose his 60th birthday to lie to Nigerians about being hungry. He was Speaker from 1999 to 2007, Governor from 2007 to 2015, and Minister from 2015 to 2023. He never spoke about hunger during those years.
“Now they are regrouping. They are only hungry for power. This shows his failure. How can you trivialise the issue of hunger? He joined Atiku and claimed hunger. It is clear he cannot stay out of power. From 1999 to 2023, Amaechi stood before Nigerians and claimed hunger. He was a former governor who couldn’t secure even 25% for Buhari during elections, despite being the campaign DG.
“Thank God we did not support the PDP; otherwise, he would have taken the glory. He is now in a coalition. I don’t like to talk much. Let them form their team and start from home in Rivers. Let’s see how he plans to remove the president. Is it a military coup?
“The term ‘removal’ is synonymous with dictatorship or military coup. Nigerians remember what happened in 2015, and now he claims Nigerians are hungry. I am not a liability; I am an asset. You may dislike me, but I am an asset in ensuring President Tinubu wins a second term.”
But obviously miffed by the outing, who described it as evidence of “hubris” a human character failure, he said: “There is a basic principle in human relationships about your relationship with your bosses. I think Nyesom Wike is very rude and disrespectful because Rotimi Amaechi is his boss in politics.
“When he (Wike) was LGA chairman, during Amaechi’s second term, it was Rotimi Amaechi that helped him to become LGA chairman. Subsequently, he became chief of staff to Rotimi Amaechi. It was Amaechi who recommended him to become minister of state for education.
“He talks carelessly about his former bosses. I think he is disrespectful. This speaks to his character. Still talking about his hubris, he has abused Sir Peter Odili, an elder statesman. He had said publicly that Peter Odili does not qualify to be an elder.
“This was the same man that he was taken to by Dr Patience Jonathan to help him become governor. There is no name he has not called Dr Peter Odili and his wife. He referred to Chief Olabode George as a ground rent debtor.
“Who will Nyesom Wike not insult? He has shown signs that he is also going to insult President Bola Tinubu. In that interview, he pointed out that if he had known that President Tinubu was going to declare a state of emergency in Rivers, he would have offered a different kind of advice.
“That is already a signal to President Tinubu to know that this man you are dealing with, his only interested is his own interests. President Tinubu should beware. Tomorrow he will abuse this same President Tinubu.”
