Martin Vincent Otse, Nigeria’s social media sensation, otherwise known as VertyDarkMan, is currently fielding questions to members of the House of Representatives after storming the National Assembly premises, Monday afternoon.
Details of the interrogation is not out yet, but it is expected that he would be telling the lawmakers all he knows about the controversy from the audio recording of an alleged conversations between Idris Okuneye, popular Nigerian crossdresser, also known as Bobrisky and yet to be identified associate, where some stark details of the rot in the Nigerian judicial system were revealed.
The controversial crossdresser and social media influencer, was depicted in the tape, which has now gone viral in Nigeria and beyond, as revealing how he paid N15million to get the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to drop money laundering charges, initially contained in a set of charges for which he was made to appear in court in March this and later convicted.
Outside bribing some unnamed EFCC officials, Okuneye, also revealed in the tape that he also secured a transfer from officials of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS), from the common cells for convicts to a luxury apartment, where he served his term, among other revelations, including how Femi Falana, Nigeria’s foremost human rights activist was connected in the entire saga.
The revelation, had elicited outrage across Nigeria, while those mentioned had taken actions – the EFCC, ordering investigation through Ola Olukoye, its Chairman – NCS suspending some three officials believed to be involved and also launching its own investigation – while Falana is threatening legal action against the social media influencer for defamation.
Oste’s appearance at NASS, was on the invitation of the lawmakers, who said they were scandalised by the development and directed all the parties named in the sordid affair, including Okuneye, EFCC, and NCS to appear before them.
The social media influencer was seen in a video alighting from a black Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), decked in all white traditional attire of the Edo people of Nigeria, where he hails with white gloves to match and accompanied by another young man, who was similarly attired in flowing red skirts done in Edo fashion, with the rest of his body left bare.
Before heading for the main building after arriving at the NASS premises, VDM, as he is popularly known, was seen performing some rituals, with his associate sounding a hand-held bell, while making some incantations in Bini language.
