Nigerians have been told not to look beyond Imo and Ebonyi states for the cause of the current killings and general insecurity in the South East, because the mayhems, which have seen hundreds of people murdered and many more kidnapped, are coming from the two states.
Attan Achonu, candidates of the Labour Party (LP) for the governorship election in Imo State on November 11, 2023, told Channels Television in an interview that in fact, the perpetrators usually launched their attacks, in other states of the South East from a particular location and axis of Imo.
He did not name the particular axis in the interview on Political Paradigm, but said that it from there that Anambra, Enugu and Abia, were being attacked, with occasional onslaughts coming from Ebonyi, adding that the phenomenon, was one of the issues he would address frontally from his first day in office as governor.
Stating that it was because of his consistent campaigns against the ugly situation that many of his supporters virtually dragged him into the governorship race, because he was seen as the only one that could address the crisis, he was not going to disappoint, but would ensure that not only the people of Imo would be saved the nightmare but the entire South East.
Hear him: “The situation in Imo is so bad honestly. The people who were asking me to run, the argument they were making made sense to me. They say I’m the right person to do this and that all these things that I have been championing all these years, that I had been living by example and that I should come and create the enabling environment for investment to thrive in Igboland.
“You see, the insecurity in the South East is from Imo. It is from an axis in Imo that Anambra is being attacked. It is from the same location, the same axis again that Enugu is being attacked, it’s from one axis that Abia is being attacked. So, the whole thing is from Imo and then some parts of Ebonyi.
“So, they believe that once Imo is gotten right, that there will be security in the South entire East and that investments can come in and thrive, so that these young men, millions of them that are unemployed, without any hope, at least can find something to do.
Speaking about his chances against the incumbent, Hope Uzodimma, he said his victory would be a clean sweep because in the entire state, nobody wanted the governor to continue, adding that in the first place, he had never won any election in the state.
His words: “As a matter for fact, in the entire Imo State, nobody wants our governor to continue. I’m ready for the election. I’m going to win him. You see, the governor, he has not really won any election in Imo State. Like in this one, the Supreme Court made him governor. He came fourth in that election. The Supreme Court made him governor. But that wouldn’t happen this time.
“I’m going to beat him, I’m going to win more votes than he will. I’ll not allow anybody to write the results in Imo State and I don’t think that any court can overturn my votes. I’m going to have very clear victory over him come this election on November 11. I’m going to win.”
