Nigerians would one day know the identities of Boko Haram and other sponsors of terrorism in the country, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, said on Thursday.

Bawa made this on Thursday while speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ current affairs programme.

But that would be when it would be safe and advisable to go public with such a sensitive information, the anti-graft agency’s boss, said while appearing on Channels Television’s evening political programme, Politics Today.

Recall that the Federal Government, through the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, had revealed in April this year that it had names of about 400 Nigerians on the list of sponsors of terrorism and would release them as well as commence prosecution soon.

The revelation came on the heels of the conviction of six of such culprits by the United Arab Emirate (UAE), after the country’s courts linked them to money wire activities channelling funds to the terrorists through Bureaux de change operations.

On Wednesday, this week, the Middle East country upped the ante by formerly placing Abdurrahaman Ado Musa, Salihu Yusuf Adamu, Bashir Ali Yusuf, Muhammed Ibrahim Isa, Ibrahim Ali Alhassan and Surajo Abubakar Muhammad, the culprits it had earlier convicted on its terror list.

Speaking on the issue, Bawa told his host that the time had not come for Nigeria to show the faces of such sponsors, but would do so at the appropriate time when it would not be harmful.

Hear him: “If you are my adviser, will you advise me to come on national television to tell the whole world regarding matters of sensitive national security issue? Certainly, not! But what I want to assure is the fact that we are working tirelessly with other sister agencies to ensure that this country is free of terrorism.

“Of course, transparency is one of the bedrocks of this administration, of course, I am not a spokesman for this administration, but I believe that at the right time Nigerians will get to know those that are financing terrorism in this country and beyond as well.

“These are issues that are beyond the borders of this country and of course we are working tirelessly with our partners overseas as well as other sister agencies at home. We are working, it is not something we should come out to say that these are the modus operandi that we are adopting.”
