From Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the umbrella body of all Igbo organisations, came a plea to President Muhammadu Buhari for the immediate release of all members of all pro-Biafra agitators in detention.

Praising the President for complying with court orders to release former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col Sambo Dasuki (retd) and Convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore, the group through its youth wing, Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, cautioned that henceforth government must make obedience to court orders a priority.

In a statement by its President-General Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Secretary-General Okwu Nnabuike, the body, said: “We urge the Presidency to release all other prisoners of conscience, especially Biafra agitators, who have been granted bail but are still held for political reasons.

“The Presidency should overhaul her modus operandi on the issues of rule of law, respect for human rights and privileges and obey court orders.

“This is to avoid such alleged United States Congress leaked letter being circulated as the main reason for the sudden release of Sowore and Dasuki.

“Such a situation makes a mockery of our democracy and the Federal Government should avoid a repeat in the future,” the group added.

Bemoaning the recent attack on former President Goodluck Jonathan’s country home, the group urged that government to throw a security cordon around him to avoid further occurrence or any harm on him.

“We call on security agents to fish out the perpetrators and sponsors of this devilish act. We warn those who suddenly became Jonathan’s detractors immediately after the Bayelsa Governorship election not to resort to violence and vengeance.

“They should accept the people’s verdict. Any further attempt on the lives of former President Goodluck Jonathan and Patience Jonathan may result in the breakdown of law and order in the oil-rich Bayelsa.”
