The legal fireworks Nigerians have been expecting from the declaration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 presidential election, seem to be coming sooner than expected.
Both Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria’s former Vice President, and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi, his Labour Party (LP) counterpart in the election, stormed the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Friday, to commence the process of the legal battle.
At the appellate court, the court of first instance for presidential election matters, the both are praying for an order to inspect all the materials the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which announced Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos State, winner in the hotly contested election, in conducting the polls.
Their prayers came via two separate ex-parte motions they filed at the Presidential Election Court (PEC) secretariat at the Court of Appeal, Abuja with INEC and two others as respondents, in both cases, already listed for hearing on the same Friday.
It means that as at the time Atiku, and Obi were talking to the media on Thursday, they had actually begun the court process, with the former filing his case on March 1, and the latter a day after on March 2.
