Court hears how security guard killed master with stone over N700 debt fracas

An Ondo Chief Magistrate court, is currently hearing the tragic case of how a 59-year-old security guard Bamiduro Adewulo was killed by his ‘Personal Assistant’ Fumilayo Asojo while settling a dispute over an N700 debt.

The deceased was reportedly hit with a stone, during his attempt to settle a dispute between Asojo and another man over N700, and attempts to save his life sympathisers who rushing him to the hospital, proved abortive, as he was said to have died two days later.

The deceased’s brother, identified as Adewole, who reported the incident to the police, said Asojo hit his brother’s head with a stone after he appealed to him not to join issues with his friend who was owing him N700, adding: “I did not believe it until I saw Duro’s lifeless body at the mortuary. The accused was known all over the town to be the Personal Assistant to the deceased.”

Asojo, who has since been arraigned on one count bordering on murder, over the incident, said to have occurred on December 28, 2022, at Ute in Owo Local Government area of Ondo State, was said to have contravened sections 319 and 355 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. II Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

Justice, R.O Yakubu, presiding Magistrate, who did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction, ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta Correctional Centre, pending advice from the DPP, while adjourning the matter to March 19 for mention.
